The Nova Scotia Lesbian Oral History Project is meant to strengthen connections between senior lesbians, the broader LGBT community and Nova Scotians in general who may be unaware of the contributions lesbians have made to the history of Nova Scotia. This project also helps connect volunteers from the LGBT community with senior lesbians to ensure that these important stories are more visible and accessible to those seeking insights into the history of LGBT activism and experiences across Nova Scotia.

This project also strengthens the relationship between the LGBT community, the Nova Scotia education, archives and the heritage sectors more generally.  This initiative is aimed at filling a significant gap in Nova Scotia's archival holdings, it constitutes an important step towards improving the LGBT community's trust in archival repositories that seek to share their materials and tell their stories. By working collaboratively with senior lesbians and the wider LGBT community to collect and display these oral histories, we will address this historical erasure. Representatives such as LGBT students, elders from The Elderberries, the Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project, the Halifax Public Libraries, the Dalhousie University Libraries, among others, will be vital partners in this project.
